Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting my portfolio! My name is Heidi and I'm an aspiring Graphic Designer. I graduated from Hope College in 2008 with duel degrees in Communication and Business Management emphasizing in Marketing and Public Relations. After graduation I realized I wanted to get more into the creative aspects of promotion so I began pursuing my associates degree in Graphic Design with an emphasis in Web Design. In this program I was able to explore artistic yet technical ways to convey messages. I learned art techniques along with the programs of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects, Flash,Dreamweaver) through my drawing, typography, design, animation, theory and art history classes.
Along with graphic design, I also enjoy researching, journalism, copyediting and copywriting. With my experience as a Senior Staff writer for the Anchor Newspaper along with my internship experiences in the City of Dearborn Department of Public Information and the City of Holland Marketing Department, I have improved my interviewing, public speaking, writing and copyediting skills. I also have experience in front of and behind the camera in tv filming, having worked on Hope College's "Montage" television program.
While pursuing my degree in graphic design, I have also had the privilege of working for a world renowned company, Marriot International. Working with a diverse group of colleagues and guests from around the world has taught me how to assess and intuitively react to guests needs in an empathetic and efficient manner.
In the summer of 2010 I had the opportunity to be the Online Marketing Director of an Ink and Toner company. I helped the president set up and record the inventory of the new outlet store, designed marketing pieces to distribute to clients, set up and maintained multiple social networking accounts, wrote and designed regular email and fax blasts, and researched and set into motion other various opportunities for online promotions.
I am a fast learner, proficient with many computer software programs and have interest and knowledge in many subjects. I enjoy working with teams but am also comfortable working independently on assignments-analyzing problems and coming up with creative efficient solutions in a timely manner. I am a highly organized, reliable and level-headed person with a positive attitude and an unending desire to learn.
